This weekend, our team ventured to a delightful assortment of hospitality venues in the charming locales of Chester, Manchester, and the picturesque Ribble Valley. Buckle up and grab a fork as we take you on a gastronomic adventure through these hidden gems and well-known destinations, where our Ginger crew enjoyed scrumptious dishes that we think you’d love!

The Queen at Chester Hotel 

Jodie started her weekend at The Queen at Chester Hotel, which is located just a 10-minute walk from the city centre. This stunning hotel has a rich history, having hosted notable guests like Charles Dickens, Cecil Rhodes, and Lillie Langtry since its opening in 1860. General Manager Bob Fairweather and Hotel Manager Louise Turner are experts in hospitality, ensuring guests receive a warm welcome and a fantastic overall experience at The Queen. If you’re planning to visit Chester, The Queen is an excellent place to stay.

Moules a Go Go Bar and Bistro, Chester

On Friday night, Jodie visited Moules a Go Go Bar and Bistro and had a great time. She was particularly impressed with the seafood platter, which was delicious and well-presented. The atmosphere of the bar and bistro was lively and upbeat, with friendly staff and a fun vibe. Overall, Jodie had a fantastic experience at Moules a Go Go and would highly recommend it to anyone who loves seafood as much as her.

The Old Harker’s Arms, Chester

Jodie dropped by The Old Harker’s Arms in Chester to catch up with Andy and the team. The cosy and welcoming atmosphere of the place immediately made her feel at home, and the friendly staff made sure she was well taken care of. Jodie enjoyed a drink while chatting with Andy and the team, appreciating the traditional yet modern décor of the bar. Her visit to The Old Harker’s Arms was a delightful experience, and she left feeling content and looking forward to her next visit.

 

The Sandbar Seafood Shack, Chester Market

On Saturday afternoon, Jodie visited The Sandbar Seafood Shack in Chester Market, lured in by the promise of the freshest and most exciting coastal seafood. She was impressed by the casual yet inviting atmosphere of the place, where she could enjoy fantastic seafood in a relaxed setting. The extra care that The Sandbar takes in preparing its food was evident in every dish, with the freshest produce and ingredients sourced from the best local suppliers. Jodie could tell that the chefs had put in a lot of passion and care into making each dish a special and memorable experience.

Porta Tapas, Chester

Jodie visited Porta Tapas on Saturday night and was looked after by Dale, who provided excellent service throughout the meal. She was blown away by the quality of the tapas, which she described as “top-draw.” The atmosphere of the restaurant was lovely, with a warm and welcoming ambiance that made her feel right at home. Jodie enjoyed trying different dishes from the menu, each prepared to perfection and bursting with flavour. Overall, Jodie had a fantastic experience at Porta Tapas and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a delicious meal in a lovely setting.

American Pies, Manchester

Craig visited American Pie’s in Manchester, a pizza destination that takes indulgence to the next level. American Pie’s is in partnership with Brewski, and they offer a unique menu that includes deep-fried calzone, cheesy garlic knots, deep-fried duck lasagne bites, and a range of real Chicago-style deep-dish pizza pies with a trademark parmesan butter crust. Craig was also excited to try the “doughritos,” a delicious fusion of garlic bread and pizza burrito. To top it all off, American Pie’s serves house-made oven-baked cookie dough, making it the ultimate treat day destination for pizza lovers. Craig had a great time indulging in the delicious menu at American Pie’s and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and satisfying pizza experience.

Glamorous Chinese Restaurant, Manchester

Colin had a fantastic weekend trip to Glamorous Chinese Restaurant, starting off by sampling some of their famous dim sum dishes. He indulged in prawn and leek dumplings, Shanghai pork dumplings, mince dumplings, crispy squid, and pork bao buns. To finish off the meal, Colin tried the delicious custard bao buns. The food was exceptional, and Colin was impressed with the restaurant’s popularity in the local Chinese community. After the meal, Colin headed to the busy Wing Yip superstore to top up on supplies for some Chinese home cooking. He was excited to take home some of the ingredients used in the restaurant’s dishes and try to recreate them himself.

The White Hart, Sabden

On Sunday, Megan completed a 7-mile walk, stopping off at The White Hart in Sabden along the way. She enjoyed some delicious food, including honey-glazed chorizo, halloumi fries, and salt and pepper chips. Her mum and sister opted for scampi and gammon; all the food was delicious. They left the restaurant feeling extremely full. Megan’s dog slept in front of the fire while they ate, an indicator of the warm and cosy atmosphere. The White Hart provided the perfect spot for a break during their walk, and Megan would definitely recommend it to anyone in the area.

Lambing Season

It didn’t feel right to end Where Ginger Goes without telling you all about Ange’s weekend at the farm! As some of you may know, Ange’s farm is home to a herd of sheep, and this week saw the first lambs of the season born. Ange has welcomed a total of 14 little lambs so far, with more to come. We’re loving the photos Ange; we didn’t know lambs knew how to #selfie!
